We recommend Ameritas if your dentist participates in the network.  If your dentist does not participate, we recommend Aetna since they do not require that you use a network dentist.

Step 1: VERY IMPORTANT
Is your dentist IN NETWORK for Ameritas?

Ameritas has a comprehensive nationwide network of providers because they utilize 7 different dental networks including: Dentemax, United Concordia, Physicians Mutual, Connection Dental, Zelus, Stratus  and Ameritas

The Ameritas plans provide worthwhile benefits as long as you use in network providers.

  • It is strongly encouraged that you use an in network provider with these plans.  In network providers have agreed to a negotiated rate for their services.  You simply pay your coinsurance for the service (varies based on service).  They cannot balance bill you for anything above the negotiated rate.

What happens if I see an out of network dentist?

  • With Ameritas, if you use an out of network provider, your reimbursement will be based on Maximum Allowable Benefit (MAB), which is equal to the lowest contracted fee in your ZIP Code.  If your dentist does not participate with the network, this will be considerably lower than what they charge and you will be billed the difference.
Dental Benefits
  • 2 – 4 different benefit levels available depending on your state of residence.
  • Premiums range from approximately $17/month – $50/month depending on your benefit level and state of residence.
Vision Benefits
Hearing Benefits
  • Up to $400 in benefits available (once every 5 years)
  • Only available on certain plans- included at no extra cost

We recommend Aetna if your dentist does not participate with the Ameritas Network.

  • While you are not required to use an in-network provider, you will have lower costs for services if you do. Aetna utilizes the Careington network (click to search providers).

What happens if I see an out of network dentist?

  • Aetna does NOT require that you use a network dentist.  If you use an out of network provider, your reimbursement will be based on Usual and Customary charges (average rate for that service in your geographic area).  If your dentist charges more than the “average” rate for services, you may be billed the difference.
